Max Tarlton is an Emmy-nominated journalist. He’s currently anchoring, reporting and executive producing for SUNRISE at KYMA News 11, covering Yuma County, Arizona, Imperial County, California, and northern counties in Sonora and Baja California, Mexico.
Born in Long Beach, California, his family moved to Omaha, Nebraska in the 90s where he eventually attended Omaha Burke High School. He then enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, pledging with the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon. Max then moved to Illinois in 2009 to major in Broadcast Journalism at Columbia College Chicago.
In 2010, Max began blogging for community website Chicago Talks and producing content for student start-up WCHI News.
Max then spent nearly a year in Los Angeles in 2013, studying entertainment journalism and working at Warner Bros., critiquing screenplays submitted for production at Hunt Lowry’s Roserock Films.
Returning to Chicago, Max was seen on Columbia’s broadcasts, Newsbeat and Windy City Webcasts, while interning with the WGN Morning News.
Upon graduation in 2014, Max began as the WGN Midday News writing intern before becoming a per-diem news writer; working on multiple daily newscasts.
